Hair Challenge: Biotin

My husband and I are doing a weight loss challenge, which is awesome for my overall health. While I’m working on a healthy body, I decided to work on healthier hair and nails, too! During my annual check up, I found out that I am anemic. As a remedy, my PCP told me to start taking one a day vitamins. When I take them, they give me a boost of iron. Since it’s a multi-vitamin, there is a lot of other good stuff there, too….like a splash of biotin. In addition to the one a day vitamins, I am taking 2000 mcg of biotin, a green coffee supplement, and raspberry ketones.

In case you’re unfamiliar with the benefits of biotin (also called vitamin B7 or vitamin H), it’s a vitamin which has the main functions of helping your body to process energy, and of carrying carbon dioxide through your body. Your sweat glands, nerve tissue and bone marrow also function at their peak efficiency when you have proper Biotin levels. Additionally, Biotin plays a major role in your blood glucose production. Since biotin is heavily involved in the breakdown of carbohydrates within your body, it is largely responsible for keeping your blood sugar at healthy levels. Finally, taking a Biotin supplement may even help you to stimulate new hair and nail growth. It’s one of the vitamins used in Hairfinity (makes sense, right?).

Goals are important when taking on a hair challenge/journey. Mine is to go from shoulder length to armpit length by the end of the summer. I’ll be sure to update you all midway and in August! If you want to try a biotin challenge, you can purchase these vitamins for less than $5 at Wal-Mart. Let me know how it goes for you.
