How I Organize My Makeup with Ikea’s Malm Chest

I don’t always wear makeup. When I do, I am sure to have my things everywhere. I’ve never been a vanity girl, either. I can’t put on my makeup while sitting. I have to stand. I have to boo-love the mirror a bit, so my makeup is put on properly. For these reasons, I transformed my Ikea Malm chest into a cool makeup station!

The dresser was my husband’s from college, but I quickly inherited it for my use. I have it situated in a corner of my walk-in closet. While I use the larger bottom drawers for extra clothing storage, the top drawers are used for storing large palettes.

On the very top of the dresser is a collapsable mirror. I set the mirror in the upright position and used the extra space for a bit of organization. I have four trays (which were $1 each at Dollar Tree) to organize my eye, lip, face, and nail stuff. In addition, I use two pencil holders (also $1 each at Dollar Tree) to organize my eye and face brushes.

Malm chests are currently sold for $179 at Ikea. It may be a little on the expensive side for makeup storage, but it’s a nice investment. If you have tons of makeup, the drawers will give you a lot of room. If you don’t have a lot of makeup, you’ll find another use for the extra space (like I did). With trays and containers available at Ikea and Dollar Tree, you can further organize these chests according to your needs.

Also, if you don’t like the chest as-is, you may find something cool on Ikeahackers.com.
