My Favorite Biodegradable Exfoliating Cleansers

If you care about your skincare routine, you probably have an opinion about the impending ban on microbeads. I love that these microbeads are being banned because they do not dissolve and may pose a threat to the environment. However, some ladies are a bit frantic because their staple cleansers won’t be around anymore. Well, fret not. I have pulled together a list of my favorite natural exfoliants. I have purchased each of these products within the last year and have LOVED each of them.

Hair Regimen Pt. 1: Washing Routine

Like clockwork, I post a natural hair pic and I’m asked about my regimen. I never thought anyone would ask—especially because I don’t have an elaborate routine. All I know is that I like easy peasy when it comes to my hair. I also hate having hair that feels weighed down by products. Although my routine isn’t much, I decided to share with the world.

Hair Test: TyMeSheHer’s Hair Routine

I have been following Tynisha on Instagram and Youtube for a few months. She has AWESOME hairstyles for naturals—and her hair is about the same length as mine in its curly state! She recently posted her post-wash hair stretching regimen, so I decided to give it a try.

Before I get into the regimen, I should tell you that I don’t always use all natural products in my hair. While I love Dr. Bronner’s castile soap as a shampoo, I grew up with VO5 and Tresemme products. My mom (and dad) used Pink Moisturizer, African Pride scalp conditioner (i.e. grease), and Let’s Jam in my hair. None of those products hindered hair growth and retention when used in moderation. In fact, my hair was down my back before I ever got a perm.

That being said, I have no problem with her regimen. If you need to use 100% natural products, this may not be the regimen for you!

Tynisha basically uses the LOC method (Liquid/Leave-in, Oil, Cream—in that order). That’s what I used before, so I basically just made a minor change:

Leave-in: Just For Me Leave-in Detangler

Oil: Olive Oil and Kemi Oyl (distributed with a Misto spray bottle)

Cream: Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine Intensely Smooth Leave-In

First, I towel dried my hair, then applied the products in the order above. Next, I sectioned my hair into eighths. I twisted four twists in each section, detangling with a shower comb as I went. Then, I sat under a hooded dryer for 15 minutes on high. I let my hair air dry the rest of the way. After my hair dried, I removed the twists and brushed it all into a bun. Then, I tied it down with a silk scarf. In the morning, my hair was pretty stretched, so I tried this style.

Here’s Tynisha’s tutorial for this awesome style:
